What is dual band router? Details you need to know

Dual band router works in dual band or two band. Here band means bandwidth or frequency and router is a networking device used to connect devices(smart phones/laptops) to the internet/network. So now, you may have been clear why the term dual band have exist.

Dual band router works in two frequency: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Earlier but still popular is 2.4 GHz which is the most common. Everywhere we see the router and in the wifi signal we connect is of 2.4 GHz. So with the advancement of technology and research, now the different set of routers are developed which works on 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz also.

With such features and simultaneously switching technique, dual band exceeds both in performance and speed.

Why dual band router is better than single band router?

Single band router only transmit on 2.4 GHz band. This band is more susceptible to interference and noise. Also due to larger wavelength, it could travel long distance but with slower speed.

But when the dual band router is used, the additional feature of 5 GHz frequency is utilized. The 5 GHz band have shorter wavelength and is less susceptible to noise and it can penetrate in very small areas enhancing speed.

With such features and simultaneously switching technique, dual band exceeds both in performance and speed.

Where single band and dual band router is deployed?

Single band router is normally used for connecting to the internet as we have in our home. Likewise single band typically used for checking mail, web browsing and video watching.

However, dual band is deployed where online high resolution gaming, video streaming and high resolution audio is desired. Normally, they are even used for high speed data transfer between the the devices connected in the same network.

Do you know more details about this dual/single band router? If then, why not others know about that in the comment section below.
